The third segment of the final season of The Walking Dead — or, more popularly, simply 11C, as it’s known in the fandom — will debut on October 2, 2022. AMC revealed the release date in a much-anticipated trailer unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con.
The cast of The Walking Dead will be returning for the show’s final season. Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Khary Payton, Lauren Cohan, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will all be returning. There will be eight episodes in this season, and it will conclude the show that began airing in 2010. Recently, AMC released a trailer for the final season which showed some of what is to come including a confrontation with the Governor from the Commonwealth.
At the SDCC stage, many people gathered to watch the final Walking Dead panel. The cast on stage included Reedus, McBride, Payton and Morgan. They were joined by Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, Seth Gilliam, Josh McDermitt, Michael James Shaw, Cailey Fleming and Lauren Ridloff, and Scott Gimple, chief content creator for the franchise was also there. Also present was showrunner and executive producer Angela Kang and multi-hyphenate Greg Nicotero.
The 11th season of the show was interrupted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. AMC had to reshuffle their plans for the series finale. The first eight episodes of season 11 aired from Aug. 22 to Oct. 10, 2021, with the second half airing from Feb. 20 to April 10.
The Walking Dead, a series based on a comic book that started in 2003, has lost some viewers over the years. However, the last season is not the end of the show. AMC has other Walking Dead-related projects in the works. There is a spinoff series called Tales of the Walking Dead that will air on August 14th. AMC is also working on a project called Isle of the Dead that focuses on Maggie Greene and Negan. Another spinoff starring Norman Reedus as Daryl is expected soon after (Melissa McBride left the show this year).
