The Walking Dead is getting some Rick Grimes films, we’re sure you’ve heard! It feels like we’ve been waiting for these films for an incredibly long time. That’s because we have! The pandemic really put a delay in production. Andrew Lincoln has been talking about his inevitable return as Rick Grimes. He has no interest in directing the Rick Grimes movies!
Andrew Lincoln has been talking about coming back as Rick Grimes for some time now. He’s incredibly excited to come back and even seems to regret leaving. He’s really looking forward to catching up with Rick Grimes in these films.
Andrew Lincoln left The Walking Dead in season 9. He blew up a bridge and flew off in a helicopter, never to be seen again. At least until the films.
“Completing the show was like releasing air finally,” he said at San Diego’s Comic-Con, “And it was very satisfying the last two episodes in particular.”
Andrew Lincoln has directed in the past. He directed a show called Teachers, actually, but he’s never directed an episode of The Walking Dead. He recently opened up as to why he’s never directed an episode of the zombie show.
“I have signed for more than one film,” Lincoln told SFX Magazine. “I am a producer on it. I will not be directing, because I don’t like watching myself, so that would be a self-defeating exercise. It would just be the most painful… yeah, it just wouldn’t happen!”
Production hasn’t started. But the actor addressed the long wait. “We need to get the first one absolutely right, and that’s why it’s taken longer than we anticipated – and obviously with the pandemic,” he said. “I can’t wait. I’m really excited about broadening the scale and scope of the story and finding out where Rick is.”
The Walking Dead has done an entire season, at least, without its star. Scott Gimple has been addressing several questions regarding the final season, though.
“There’s some sunshine between the gloom,” he said about the tone of the final season on a TWDUniverse Twitch stream, “But the dark stuff gets very, very, very, very dark. It’s not unrelentingly dark. There’s some bright spots.”
He expanded on these dark moments, after.
“Without getting too into it, there’s a level of intensity to these episodes that’s both an intensity of threat intermingled with the intensity of emotions behind that, and various histories of the characters getting intermingled with that,” he said.
Finally, the question that everyone is really asking is, of course, about Rick. Is he going to be in the final season or not?
“I don’t think it’s written yet, but I would never say never to that because everybody that’s still doing the TV show are dear friends, and it’s an extraordinary feat that they’re still going and making this beautiful and ground-breaking show that still resonates with the world,” he said.
Let us know what you think about Andrew Lincoln directing the Rick Grimes movies! Or not directing them, in this case.
The Walking Dead will be back on AMC this August!
