‘The Walking Dead’: A Negan-Focused Film has “Been Discussed”

The Walking Dead fandom is full of excitement after the show’s eye-opening panel at San Diego Comic-Con. In addition to an action-packed season 10 trailer, AMC also delivered the first teaser for the upcoming Rick Grimes movie. With all the recent enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming film, the internet has been abuzz discussion what other films the series could create.

A genuine possibility for a spinoff film is Negan’s backstory. Negan is one of The Walking Dead‘s biggest baddies, and he has quickly become a fan-favorite character. Series creator Robert Kirkman even devoted an entire special edition comic titled Here’s Negan to tell the character’s backstory. So, wouldn’t it be likely that a Negan film could happen? As it turns out, that idea has already been discussed.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan brilliantly portrays the character on the television series. Comicbook.com chatted with Morgan during last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con. When asked about the possibility of a Negan-centric spinoff film, Morgan confirmed recent discussions, but nothing is final. Morgan said:

[row]”I know that it’s been discussed. I, we gotta do it before I get any older, I mean, pretty soon I’m not gonna be able to be the young Negan anymore.”[/row]

While nothing is confirmed, it certainly sounds like more Negan stories are possible. Even Forbes points out that it seems like Kirkman may be willing to continue within the Dead universe with Negan’s story.

(WARNING: Mild Comic SPOILERS Ahead)

The Walking Dead comics surprisingly ended this past month with a massive time jump forward. Forbes astutely points out that most characters in the comics received definite and clear endings to their journey, except Negan. Aside from Kirkman confirming that Negan is alive, there is no indication of what happened to him during the time jump. It leaves the possibility open that Kirkman could return to the universe to explore even more Negan stories during that missed time.

Whether it’s on the big screen, on our TVs or in a new series of comics, The Walking Dead fans all pretty much agree. They’d love to see more Negan.

What do you think? Would you want to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in a Negan spinoff film? Would you want to see a new comic series surrounding the villainous The Walking Dead character? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
