We’ve all heard by now that The Flash film that’s currently in production will have not one, but two Batmen in it! Ben Affleck is returning for one final outing as the Dark Knight in The Flash! He will be joined by the 1989 Batman, though! Michael Keaton put the cowl back on and he’s ready to kick ass! Michael Keaton reveals why he returned to the Batman role in another interview with The Hollywood Reporter!
He spoke with them previously, too, where he revealed how normal it was to return to the role. “Shockingly normal” is what he said, which is awesome to hear. Hopefully, that means he’s ready to nail the role, which it sounds like he is. In fact, he even used those exact words!
It turns out Keaton really liked the script that Christina Hodson wrote for The Flash. She also wrote Birds Of Prey, which might give at least a little bit of an indication of what we can expect from The Flash. Keaton actually said to THR “Frankly, in the back of my head, I always thought, ‘I bet I could go back and nail that motherf*cker. And so I thought, ‘Well, now that they’re asking me, let me see if I can pull that off.'”
Keaton then went on to discuss the fact that he didn’t really understand the Multiverse. He even claims he read the script three times! “I had to read it more than three times to go, ‘Wait, how does this work?’. They had to explain that to me several times. By the way, I’m not being arrogant, I hope, about this. I don’t say it like, ‘I’m too groovy.’ I’m stupid. There’s a lot of things I don’t know about. And so, I don’t know, I just kind of figured it out, but this was different.
What’s really interesting is how much more I got [Batman] when I went back and did him. I get this on a whole other level now. I totally respect it. I respect what people are trying to make. I never looked at it like, ‘Oh, this is just a silly thing.’ It was not a silly thing when I did Batman. But it has become a giant thing, culturally. It’s iconic. So I have even more respect for it because what do I know? This is a big deal in the world to people. You’ve got to honor that and be respectful of that. Even I go, ‘Jesus, this is huge.’”
Fans are incredibly excited to see Keaton step back into the role of Batman! And now we know why he returned to the Batman role. If he loved the script enough to return, I think that certainly bodes well for The Flash. That’s just my opinion, though.
The Flash should release on November 4, 2022!
