Last week, we said a sad and heartfelt goodbye as a small piece of our childhood closed forever. After struggling with financial woes, Toys ‘R’ Us liquidated and closed all of its U.S. locations leaving the longtime mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe behind on its website to say goodbye as well.
For decades, Geoffrey the Giraffe has been responsible for bringing smiles to children’s faces, and now that his time with the U.S. branches of Toys ‘R’ Us is over, the San Antonio Zoo just might have an open job for the beloved mascot. The zoo has a brilliant idea which would allow Geoffrey to live on and, at the same time, help out a great cause.
In the below video, Brittany, a representative from the San Antonio Zoo, offers to adopt the mascot giraffe. The zoo would love for Geoffrey to join forces with them and become an advocate for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. In the video, Brittany says, “We are passionate about securing a future for wildlife, and we’d like to secure a future for Geoffrey.”
According to the organization’s website, The Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) is the only non-governmental organization in the world that concentrates solely on the conservation and management of giraffe in the wild throughout Africa. With the familiar face of Geoffrey the Giraffe, the organization may be able to extend its reach and do more to help protect giraffes in the wild.
