The Russo Brothers on ‘Infinity War’s’ Impact on ‘Captain America: Civil War’

While Avengers: Infinity War is going to impact the MCU in a massive way, the turning point isn’t just for the focus of the movies or the heroes at the front line. It’s a turning point for everyone involved in Marvel Studios.

The Russo brothers recently discussed, with The Telegraph India, what Avengers: Infinity War means to them as their journey with the MCU continues.

‘Marvel has this attitude, in general, which Joe and I really admire, that is a one-movie-at-a-time philosophy, even though there is certainly a plan and ideas about where things can go. The focus is always one movie at a time because it’s your job just to make that movie everything that it can be regardless of any other film. You want to find the potential in that particular story. So that’s how we came to our process.’

Russo added that part of the joy of working on Infinity War was getting the characters in place (and out of sorts) for Thanos’ arrival. Infinity War played an important part in how Civil War came to an end.

‘I think through the experience of working on Captain America: Civil War and working with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on Civil War, we knew that there was a culmination coming. I think part of the reason why we were drawn to tell the story of Civil War and one of the reasons why we thought it was such a great place to leave the Avengers divided at the end was because we knew the greatest threat they would ever face would be coming in Thanos.’

The Avengers divided is a concept that we hate, but one that allows room to grow, to grieve, and to be tested. It’s the turning point of the MCU and that means loss, but it also means gaining something different.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27th.
