The babies are back and they are ready to crawl their way back on to your television screens and the big screen!

Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures have announced a set revival for the lovable 1990s cartoon kids Rugrats. Deadline reports that Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Angelica and the whole gang will be returning to television in a new 26-episode season at Nickelodeon as well as in a live-action film from Paramount Players, a division of Paramount Pictures. Both the television series and film will include all of your favorite classic characters as well as some new additions and the live-action film will feature CGI characters.

The Rugrats movie is currently scheduled to be released on November 13, 2020, and will be written by David A Goodman. The television series will be executive produced by the original series creators Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain. Production has already started on the television series!

Sarah Levy, COO, Viacom Media Networks; and Interim President, Nickelodeon said in a statement:

[row]“Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures. What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie, and pals.”[/row]

Brian Robbins, President of Paramount Players added:

[row]“Now feels like the ideal time to reintroduce this iconic cast of characters to a whole new generation of young fans. Kids who grew up with Tommy Pickles and the Rugrats crew will now be able to share that experience with their own children.”[/row]

The original Rugrats first debuted on Nickelodeon back in 1991 and ran for 13 years and nine seasons. The series followed Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, twins Phillip and Lillian DeVille and Tommy’s cousin Angelica Pickles, a group of adventurous babies and toddlers, who would set out to accomplish a seemingly ordinary task, however, from a baby’s perspective, it turned into an adventure. The series was critically-acclaimed winning four Daytime Emmys, six Kids’ Choice Awards, and the series even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
