The Retro Gamer: ‘Super Mario Sunshine’ Edition

Greetings, fellow gamers! You know, as much as I look forward to rushing out and buying the newest and coolest video game, I occasionally like to stop, dust off an ‘older’ video game and pop it in the console. (My bank account also likes when I occasionally do this).
This week the game I chose to do was Super Mario Sunshine. As I began playing this, I remembered exactly how much fun it was! I have always been a fan of everything Mario, so naturally this game would be a favorite of mine.
What is especially cool about this game, aside from the fact that your partner in crime (in addition to Yoshi) is a water nozzle back-pack named FLUDD (Flash Liquidizing Ultra Dousing Device), you also get to face off with good old villains such as Bowser and Bowser Jr.
Super Mario Sunshine can be compared to its predecessor, Super Mario 64, in many ways. Players play as Mario as he tries to obtain 120 ‘Shine Sprites’ in order to bring light back to the tropical Isle Delfino to save the townspeople after Bowser Jr. steals the Shine Sprites and covers the island in toxic slime. While on Isle Delfino, players can access various worlds via portals which become available as the game progresses. Similar to collecting Stars in Super Mario 64, players obtain Shine Sprites by clearing various objectives given to Mario upon entering each stage, with more objectives unlocked in each level after clearing an existing one.
However, you don’t have to look too far or beat big scary bosses to find every ‘Shine Spirit’! There are also various hidden areas and challenges across Isle Delfino where more Shine Sprites can be obtained.
