‘The Purge’ Series Gets a Trailer and Premiere Date

If you’ve seen all twenty of The Purge movies that have been released and were thinking to yourself “wow, I could really use some more of The Purge” you’re in luck! The chilling movie franchise, which follows an annual night of legal crime and murder in America, has been transformed into a series for USA/SyFy and we’ve got all the scoop for you!

“We are just minutes away from the start of this glorious holiday. Tonight we celebrate because we made this country great. Let the fun begin!”

From film franchise creator James DeMonaco and Blumhouse Television, The Purge series will add a new chapter to the already well-established universe and finds “several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city, and as the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.” You can check out the first trailer below!

The Purge is set to premiere on Tuesday, September 4 at 10/9c on USA Network, which is just a few months after the film franchise’s latest chapter The First Purge, which hits theaters next week. The series stars Gabriel Chavarria, Jessica Garza, Hannah Emily Anderson, and Reed Diamond. It will be written and executive produced by DeMonaco and led by Jason Blum with Thomas Kelly serving as showrunner.

The Purge first hit theaters in 2013 and starred Ethan Hawke and Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey. It quickly became a cult hit and before we knew it there were three more installments including The Purge: Anarchy, The Purge: Election Year and 2018’s The First Purge.

While the series premiere will air on USA Network, the premiere and finale episodes will simulcast on Syfy. So, if you’re into a weekly scare, be sure to mark your calendars and prepare for The Purge on Tuesday, September 4 at 10/9c.
