The Moment When the ‘Green Lantern’ Writer Replies to ‘Deadpool 2’ Dig

THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS.

It’s no secret that Ryan Reynolds regrets ever being in the green superhero suit, or ever even thinking to be the Green Lantern. His never-ending jokes about being the Green Lantern translate to one of the best Deadpool 2 credit scenes that Marvel ever had. The credit scenes start where Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) takes Cable’s (Josh Brolin) device and asks Ellie Phimister (also known as Negasonic Teenage Warhead) (Brianna Hildebrand) to fix the device together with Yukio (Shiori Kutsuna). That was a bad mistake because Deadpool makes use of it and goes back in time to save the love of his life. The time travel, however, is very addicting to Wade, so he goes on a spree and changes history. One scene is where he shoots Ryan Reynolds (himself) in the head to destroy every chance of letting him star in the Green Lantern movie. That was the moment where everyone in theaters was spitting out their drinks and suffocating of laughter.

Recently, one of the four Green Lantern writers Marc Guggenheim, Tweeted Ryan Reynolds that said enough. Guggenheim wrote the script right next to Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, and Michael Goldenberg. The movie didn’t have the success it was supposed to have, and Ryan Reynolds previously said that it probably had something to do with the script not being ready when they started filming the film.

“You just go back to script, script, script. On Green Lantern we did not have a working script until we were halfway through shooting. That is a handicap, there’s nothing you can do about that. And that’s just the nature of this business oftentimes, it’s a poster and release date first, start shooting and we’ll figure out the rest as we go. And it’s just, it’s insane. It’s hard for everyone. Everyone that worked on that movie gave their last drop of blood.” – Ryan Reynolds in a recent Q&A at a screening

Even though Warner Bros. Are moving slow into the DCU movies, they already have some plans for a Green Lantern Corps movie that they want to release in 2020.

Even though Green Lantern was no success, it gave us a lot of laughter years later (thank you, Ryan Reynolds).

Deadpool 2 is now in theaters.
