‘The Last of Us’ Star Expects Story To Extend Into At Least Three Seasons

HBO’s extraordinary recreation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us stole the show, inspiring a second season based on the events in The Last of Us Part II to be quickly approved.

With the first season mirroring the events of its source material, it is plausible to anticipate that season two will follow suit for its respective game sequel. Nonetheless, given an objectively longer story line – would a mere 9-10 hours be enough time? One of the cast members who is knowledgeable with both aspects has conflicting opinions on this matter.

According to Jeffrey Pierce, the man who brought Tommy from The Last of Us and Perry in HBO’s live-action adaptation, a third season is necessary if they truly wish to bring justice to their adaption of The Last Of Us Part II. As he told The Direct:

“I think they’ll stretch it beyond a second season, because there’s just so much story to tell in the second game.”

Pierce makes a valid point – with the average playthrough time of The Last of Us being approximately 15 hours, and The Last of Us Part II lasting around 24 hours according to HowLongToBeat, there’s undoubtedly a lot more narrative intricacies that need exploring. Of course, there are some drawn-out gameplay sections which can be excluded from the HBO adaption; however, Pierce is right in suggesting it would take much longer for audiences to appreciate all its nuances.

Though we may have to wait a bit longer for HBO’s take on the sequel season, at least episode six provided us with an intriguing hint of a major character that is soon to be unveiled.

For now, we can still catch the remaining three episodes of The Last of Us season one every Sunday night on HBO Max!
