Happy Valentine’s Day, you Netflix rom-com lovers! The streaming site announced today that last year’s successful original film The Kissing Booth has been greenlit for a sequel. Joey King and Joel Courtney who played BFFs Elle Evans and Lee Flynn announced the film in a video that showed the two building a brand new kissing booth.
When they were finished they added a “2” to officially seal the deal.
While he wasn’t featured in the video, Jacob Elordi, who played Noah Flynn will be returning as well. Based on Beth Reekles’ coming of age novel, The Kissing Booth followed Elle, a high school teenager who is forced to confront her secret crush at the kissing booth. The only problem is that he’s her best friends brother who she promised to never fall for. The sequel will be directed by Vince Marcello who will also co-write the script with Jay Arnold.
The Kissing Booth was a huge success for Netflix and helped pave the way for rom-coms such as Set it Up and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before to find audiences as well. The film also made the list of Netflix’s 2018 original films that were rewatched by users the most. You can check out the full announcement video below!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
