Filming has officially begun on Universal & Blumhouse’s production of The Invisible Man. This comes after Deadline reported that the lead role will be played by The Haunting of Hill House star Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
Director Leigh Whannell (Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3) took to Twitter to confirm that production has officially begun in Sydney, Australia.
Any recommendations for things to do in Sydney? No? Okay, I think I’ll just go shoot a movie then. STARTING TODAY. pic.twitter.com/0KZrk5R10u

The Invisible Man is inspired by Universal Pictures’ classic monster character, first portrayed by Claude Rains in the studio’s 1933 movie. The story was based on H. G. Wells’ science-fiction novel about a scientist who discovers a way to change the body to become invisible.
The films cast members consist of Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Harriet Dyer (No Activity), Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time), and Aldis Hodge (Hidden Figures).
Some are speculating Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man is a soft resurrection of Universal’s Dark Universe. Johnny Depp originally was set to star as the Invisible Man in the Dark Universe. However, because the starting film of the monster franchise, Tom Cruise’s The Mummy failed in the box office, THR reported Universal pulled the plug on pre-production of its second installment Bride of Frankenstein. Leading to Universal’s decision to explore other options… One road involving offering the films to high-profile filmmakers or producers with ideas for one-off movies not connected to a larger universe.
The film is scheduled to release in theaters on March 13, 2020.
