The Grammys Salute the Bee Gees on CBS Special

Last night, the Grammys paid tribute to one of the most famous family bands in the music industry, the Bee Gees. The group, known for their disco sound, catapulted to fame in 1977 following the release of the now classic Saturday Night Fever.

The film’s star, John Travolta, was on deck to pay tribute to the group of brothers, made up of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Travolta wore a white and black suit similar to the one his character made famous in Fever. He delighted the crowd by doing the signature Tony Manero disco pose.

The night featured performances of the Bee Gees’ most popular songs. Some of today’s hottest names in music, including Demi Lavato, Little Big Town, John Legend, Jason DeRulo, and DNCE, performed during the two-hour special. A performance by Celine Dion was one of the highlights of the event, as she sang a song written specifically for her by the Bee Gees titled “Immortality.”

The only remaining member of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb, performed a few tracks at the end of the night, while paying tribute to his late brothers and bandmates, Robin and Maurice, along with paying tribute to his brother, Andy, who had a successful solo career.

Prior to the release of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was the best selling album of all time. The film, as well as the hit songs from the soundtrack, will be turning 40 this year.
