‘The Good Doctor’ Star Freddie Highmore Signs Overall Deal with Sony

The Good Doctor star Freddie Highmore is stepping into a whole new role with Sony Pictures Television. In addition to starring in the company’s megahit drama series on ABC, Highmore has just signed a two-year overall deal with Sony which will increase his responsibility behind the camera.

Highmore’s deal with the studio will allow him to develop scripted projects for Sony across all platforms including broadcast, cable, streaming and international productions through his Alfresco Pictures banner. Highmore’s has him signed on with Sony at least through the year 2020.

On Monday, president and co-presidents of Sony Pictures Television, Jeff Frost, Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter, praised Highmore’s creativity and professionalism by saying the following in a joint statement:

[row]”Freddie is an outstanding actor and we are incredibly proud of his work on The Good Doctor. We recognize his passion, creativity and are thrilled to expand our relationship with him and his production company Alfresco Pictures.”[/row]

In addition to his role as Dr. Shaun Murphy on ABC’s The Good Doctor, Highmore has also been venturing behind the scenes as well. In the upcoming second season, Highmore penned the first episode of the season and will be in the director’s chair for another upcoming episode. Prior to his time on The Good Doctor, he also served as a writer on two episodes and director for another on Bates Motel, a series in which he also starred as Norman Bates.

Highmore’s hit series The Good Doctor dropped its first look season two trailer today which has fans rejoicing with excitement. Season 2 is said to focus on Dr. Shaun Murphy’s (Highmore) challenges at the hospital, as well as on his relationship with his love interest (and returning fan favorite character) Lea (played by Paige Spara). While that might be the case, according to Highmore himself, Shaun’s relationship with Dr. Aaron Glassman (played by Richard Schiff) is really the heart of the season two story.

The Good Doctor returns to ABC with all-new episodes on Monday, September 24th.
