‘The Good Doctor’ Drama Starring Freddie Highmore Picked Up To Series By ABC

Bates Motel may have just come to an end but series star Freddie Highmore has already found a new role on a new network.  Highmore will star in a new ABC series called The Good Doctor which was officially picked up by the network on Thursday.

The series is being written and executive produced by David Shore who is best known for creating the series House.  Lost and Hawaii Five-O star Daniel Dae Kim also executive producing.

The Good Doctor centers on Shaun Murphy (played by Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues.

The series also stars Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Brown, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neal Melendez, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Irene Keng as Dr. Sarah Chen, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews and Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman.

The Good Doctor is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. In addition to Shore and Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers. Seth Gordon, who directed the pilot, is an executive producer.
