The Flash Loses TWO Original Cast Members! Characters Going Back To Season One!
We already know that The Flash is getting an eighth season, but sadly two The Flash alums will not be in it! That’s right, The Flash loses two original cast members for its eighth season. These are characters that have been around since the very first season of The Flash and their loss is devastating to the series. The CW Arrowverse series won’t be the same without these two actors.
I’m talking of course about Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes who play Harrison Wells and Cisco Ramone respectively. Deadline has reported that both actors will be departing The Flash with the seventh season. Both characters have been around since the beginning. Cavanagh played the original version of The Reverse Flash and fans are wondering if that means the villain’s time on the show is over.
The Flash executive producer/showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement, “Tom and Carlos have been an integral part of our show for seven seasons, and will be greatly missed. Both are incredible talents who created beloved characters that fans and audiences around the world have come to love. Which is why we are happily keeping the door open for return appearances.”
Though they will be missed it seems the news isn’t all terrible. The parting seems amicable all around and Wallace says they are keeping the door open for them to return. It’s easy to imagine the actors wanting to take a break and returning later. They’ve been on The Flash for seven years, which is a long time for anything. Whatever they do next is something The Flash fans will need to keep an eye out for.
Deadline also revealed that Cavanagh was actually supposed to step down at the end of season 6. The reason for the change, as I’m sure you guessed, is because of the pandemic. The pandemic shut down production and forced certain storylines to resolve with the first few episodes of season 7.
The Wells departure isn’t too surprising considering how his storyline wrapped up early this season. The Wells’ sacrificed themselves to power the new speed force for Barry, allowing him to get his powers back. This led to the original Harrison Wells being resurrected, the one killed by Eobard Thawne before the series even started. He became Timeless Wells and left.
Valdez’s departure isn’t clear yet, but hopefully, the writers do him justice. Cisco has been around less and less since Crisis On Infinite Earths. Valdez is a core member of Team Flash and his absence will be felt throughout all of next season.
According to Deadline, Grant Gustin is already signed up for season 8. Several of the other actors are currently in negotiation to return as well.
