‘The Flash’ is Officially Renewed for Arrowverse Record Ninth Season with CW

Flash fans, good news! The Scarlet Speedster is now officially racing ahead for a historic ninth season. Since Grant Gustin had signed a new contract to return for at least one more year, DC fans had been optimistic that The Flash would continue past its current run of episodes. That has now been outright confirmed, as The CW has announced the renewal of the series!

Variety reports that the CW has renewed All American, Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, Riverdale, and Walker for new seasons. The news of The Flash season nine and that Superman & Lois will be back for its third season is sure to excite Arrowverse followers.

Variety reports that the following renewals are merely a “starting point,” and The CW has yet to make a final decision on its remaining continuing series. So there’s still hope that Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and Naomi, a new addition to the club, will return alongside their sister programs.

It also makes it the longest-running Arrowverse series, surpassing Arrow. The Flash premiered in 2014 as a spinoff of Arrow and has outlasted its parent show, which concluded after eight seasons in 2020.

Whether or not it will be able to survive long enough to reach a tenth series is now the burning question on fans’ minds. According to reports, Gustin’s (very lucrative) new contract will only keep him on for one additional year, although he was also said to be given a multi-year offer.

So far, only one castmember has been confirmed to return: Gustin. It appears probable that long-term regulars Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, and Danielle Panabaker will reprise their roles once again. The Flash season eight new episodes air on The CW every Wednesday.
