Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! As production on The Fast and the Furious 8 continues, Universal Pictures has announced that the Furious franchise film which started it all will be returning to theaters, nationwide, for a limited run.
On June 22nd, The Fast and the Furious will celebrate its 15 year anniversary with a re-release of the first of the seven films. You won’t want to miss this! Tickets are already on sale through Fandango.
In the first film, Los Angeles street racer Dominic Toretto (played by Vin Diesel) falls under the suspicion of the LAPD as a string of high-speed electronics truck robberies rocks the area. Brian O’Connor (played by Paul Walker), an officer of the LAPD, joins the ranks of Toretto’s highly skilled racing crew undercover to convict Toretto. However, O’Connor finds himself both enamored with this new world and in love with Toretto’s sister, Mia (played by Jordana Brewster). As a rival racing crew gains strength, O’Connor must decide where his loyalties really lie.
In remembrance of the first film, Vin Diesel told Entertainment Weekly:
“Fifteen years ago my life changed forever. Dom was born… Little did I know back then what that really meant. The brotherhood formed with Brian, the love personified in Letty and the sense of family initiated by Mia… It is surreal that this film has held up all the years and led to so much more. Proud of our Fast saga family. From studio to crew, thank you all.”
The Fast & Furious franchise has grossed a combined total $3.9 billion over the last 15 years. The untitled Fast and the Furious 8 is scheduled to race into theaters on April 14, 2017.
