Netflix may have finally renewed The End of the F***ing World last August for a second season, but we haven’t really heard much about the status of it until now. Netflix’s See What’s Next Twitter account gave us the content we deserve on Monday morning when they tweeted out a photo of the 2×01 script, alerting us all that production on season 2 was officially underway!

The series, which was based on the award-winning graphic novel by Charles S. Forsman, hit the streaming giant back in January to both critical and commercial acclaim, currently holding an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Black Mirror’s Alex Lawther and Penny Dreadful’s Jessica Barden, The End of the F***ing World followed James, a self-proclaimed psychopath, and Alyssa, the cool and moody new girl at school, who embark on a wild road trip to find Alyssa’s real father, which is all fine and dandy except James plans to murder Alyssa at some point along the way.
Despite ending on a cliffhanger, it hasn’t been confirmed if Lawther and Barden will both be back to reprise their roles. However, season one’s scribe Charlie Covell will be back to write for the sophomore season and he wants nothing more than to continue James and Alyssa’s story and see what happens after that final gunshot.
[row]“For me, it’s about James and Alyssa and I think that’s what people have connected with. I think a Season 2 would have to involve James and Alyssa somehow. I just love the world of them out there on the road, doing something in a weird world. So for me, any story that we expand keeps them out there somewhere,” Covell told Collider.[/row]
The series originally aired on the U.K.’s Channel 4 last year before Netflix picked up the rights to stream it in the US where it completely took off.
[row]It was astounding how popular it was for us. It didn’t do great on linear TV in the U.K., and we premiered it everywhere and it was hugely popular in every country,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, told Vulture last year.[/row]
Season 2, will air globally on Netflix, except for in the UK, where Channel 4 will once again air the series. Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix! Are you excited for more The End of the F***ing World?
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
