All good things much come to an end. Sadly, it looks like CBS’s critically-acclaimed series The Big Bang Theory will be ending its long run on the network after the show’s twelfth season.
CBS, Warner Bros. TV, and executive producer Chuck Lorre made the official announcement on Wednesday despite news that a 13th season was being explored, Deadline reports. In a joint statement, they said:

We, along with the cast, writers, and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”[/row]
At the start of this year, series star Johnny Galecki hinted at the fact that the end for the fan-favorite series might be near. During the CBS Television Critics Association press tour, Galecki said, “The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping the show has been that we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes. But I think at this point everyone’s very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.” At the time, the statement was just Galecki’s thoughts on the series based on conversations with his fellow cast members, but it’s now confirmed.
The Big Bang Theory first premiere on CBS in 2007. The highly awarded series has received 52 Emmy nominations with 10 wins and 7 Golden Globe nominations.
In addition to Lorre, Bill Prady, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland executive produce the series which stars Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch in addition to Galecki.
