About Catwoman

The Catwoman is a fictional character who first appeared in the Batman series of comic books. She was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.

Bob Kane had originally given her the name “The Cat” but later changed it to “Catwoman”. The original story for Catwoman can be found in Batman #1, published in 1940 with art by Bob Kane. This issue introduces most of the Bat-family including Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner Gordon, Dick Grayson (Robin), Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Selina Kyle (Catwoman). It also includes an appearance by Gotham City’s Police Department that would soon become major characters themselves: James Gordon and Harvey Bullock.

In this debut she is depicted as a femme fatale who is willing to use any means necessary to get a piece of the crime action in Gotham City. She has proven herself dangerous, unpredictable and resourceful throughout her publishing history including being nixed down by Batman himself on several occasions.
