Taking a Look Back at ABC’s ‘The Good Doctor’ Season 1

The first season of ABC’s The Good Doctor certainly delivered its fair share of emotional ups and downs. Without a doubt, the series packed it’s biggest emotional punch yet during the season one finale.

At the end of The Good Doctor‘s first season, it was revealed in a shocking twist that Dr. Glassman was suffering from a rare form of cancer, and ultimately was dying. The finale episode centered around Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) refusing to accept the diagnosis and researching how he could save his friend and mentor, by any means possible. Due to Dr. Glassman’s health weighing heavily on Shaun’s mind, Shaun becomes distracted during a surgery which leads to a serious mistake. If Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) gets wind of this error, Shaun risks losing his place at St. Bonaventure Hospital.

On Tuesday, The Good Doctor‘s social media accounts took fans back to the emotional moment when Dr. Glassman discusses his illness with Shaun as well as the potential consequences of Shaun’s previous actions. To add insult to injury, The Good Doctor accounts captioned their video recap posing the question, “Will there be a cure for Dr. Glassman?” Oh, man, we sure hope so! Check out the pivotal scene from season one below for a refresher of the moment.

At the end of season one, fans were left not only wondering about Dr. Glassman’s health but about whether or not he and Shaun will even be employed at St. Bonaventure at the start of the next season. The final scene shows Shaun and Dr. Glassman walking into Dr. Andrews’ office together to face their collective fates.

Thank goodness the wait for the second season’s premiere is almost over. We’re just under a month away from finding out the answer to all of our season one questions!

In addition to Highmore, Schiff, and Harper, The Good Doctor also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Paige Spara, Will Yun Lee, Fiona Gubelmann and Christina Chang. This upcoming season, Lisa Edelstein joining the cast in a recurring role as Dr. Blaize, a recently suspended expert oncologist who returns to St. Bonaventure at Dr. Glassman’s request in order to help with his cancer treatments, so perhaps there is hope on the horizon in season two. The series was created by David Shore who also serves executive producer along with Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee.

The Good Doctor returns to ABC on Monday, September 24th! Don’t forget to check out the first teaser for the highly-anticipated second season HERE.
