The Disney Channel will premiere Descendants 2 on Friday, July 21st at 8 pm. The film is the follow-up to Descendants which made its debut in 2015 and let fans in on the fairy tale world after Beauty and the Beast were wed.
The plot, as on Wikipedia, is as follows.
‘Twenty years after Belle and Beast got married and became king and queen, they established the United States of Auradon, creating a prosperous new nation from the surrounding kingdoms, and banished the villains to the Isle of the Lost, a slum where magic is suspended and surrounded by a barrier. Their son, Ben announces that his first proclamation is to give four Isle of the Lost’s children the chance to live in Auradon, away from the influence of their villainous parents. Carlos, Cruella de Vil‘s son; Jay, Jafar‘s son; Evie, the Evil Queen‘s daughter; and Mal, Maleficent‘s daughter. On the island, Maleficent instructs the quartet to steal the Fairy Godmother‘s magic wand to release the barrier so she can take over Auradon.‘
Descendants gave new life to some classic Disney fairytales with a fun twist and a look into the children of the villains we all loved to hate. As stated above, four children are granted access to live in Auradon away from the negative influences of their parents in the first film, it then follows their stories and how they navigate their new chances.
The second film promises to look at what happens after some life adjustments get hard and Mal, Maleficent’s daughter, returns to the Isle. Her friends go to find her but upon their return, they learn that her place as ‘ruler’ has been overturned.
The Isle being under new rule isn’t the only difference that has transpired. The inhabitants look happier, more like they’re enjoying themselves. Will the lure of a ‘not so perfect’ life be more than the group can handle when they make their return to save Mal?
Fans also get their first look at Ursula’s daughter in the trailer for Descendents 2.
The success of the first film has fans extremely excited for the sequel and the countdown is officially on. Check the film out on July 21st on Disney.
