Sword Art Online Progressive Movie Getting Ready To Announce NA Release Date!

Published on July 5th, 2021 | Updated on July 5th, 2021 | By FanFest

Sword Art Online became an entire worldwide phenomenon. The premise of being trapped in a deal video game is one that has always resonated with anime fans. Sure, a lot of people dislike the second arc but that first one has remained incredibly popular. Now, Aincra is coming back in the Sword Art Online Progressive movie, which is getting ready to announce its North American release date!

Sword Art Online follows Kirito, a player of the VRMMORPG Sword Art Online. Except, the day the game releases 10,000 players get trapped inside. If they die in the game, they die in real life. The rules are simple, climb the tower of Aincrad and defeat the boss on the 100th floor. If you do that, all the players get freed.

The first arc in the Sword Art Online game referred to as the Aincrad arc only lasted about 14 episodes. Everything after that takes place outside of Aincrad. The biggest problem is we don’t see the entire journey of Kirito and his friends. Progressive aims to fix some of that.

Sword Art Online Progressive is like a director’s cut of that first arc. It takes place from the first floor of Aincrad and aims to fill in some blanks. It also places a much bigger focus on Kirito’s love interest, and later kind-of wife Asuna.

The official SAO Twitter posted a new piece of art for the Sword Art Online Progressive film, along with a Japanese release date. They promise that a North American one is coming soon, though! If we’re lucky we’ll all be able to see Progressive in theatres by the end of the year.

Sword Art Online was a companion series released to the original Sword Art Online with the same purpose as the film is going to have. To fill in some blanks in Aincrad. The film will cover the first arc of that series. No news on what we can expect after or if it will continue.
