‘Supernatural’ Comes to an End with Season 15

Carry on my wayward son has become a mantra for many of us over the past fourteen seasons of the hit CW show Supernatural. I have often made jokes with my friends when shows end that “not all shows can be Supernatural.” In many ways I think the SPNFamily never thought the time would come where we would have to say goodbye to our favorite pair of brothers. That time has unfortunately come though as the three stars of the show, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins took the time to let fans know that the show’s fifteenth season will be its last. Considering fans were just celebrating the 300th episode earlier this year, despite knowing that fifteen years is an amazing run for any television show this is still difficult news to hear.

Ackles posted the video in two parts on his Instagram though the video was recently edited together as seen below from Misha Collins Twitter account.

Although no show can last forever, Supernatural has managed to make us fall in love with many characters over the years. The storylines have always drawn us in and most recently the show even managed to get Jeffrey Dean Morgan back to play John Winchester one last time. Though hopefully we might see a glimpse of John in addition to other characters killed off the show in previous seasons. After all, a reemergence of past characters thanks to the alternate reality storyline on the show in season thirteen. Despite knowing the show did not want to use the apocalyptic world to bring everyone back, I believe the show will pay tribute to everyone in the final season to everyone involved.

That past two seasons have been particularly good at this by bringing back characters, but also by implementing various scenes from the past. The strange thing about Supernatural is that no matter how many episodes we always find ourselves remembering that small detail back in season five which plays an important role now. Though the reminders initially of the weekly episodes are nice, most fans do not need them. For years we have watched the show and given our time to each episode. For myself this show managed to get me through one of the hardest times in my life. I will forever be grateful to the time and energy that the cast and crew of this show has put into it over the past fourteen years much like executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb.

Dabb and Singer issued the following joint statement:

Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve

I believe that they will come through with what they have promised. Considering that Ackles, Padalecki, and Collins took time out of their day to issue the teary eyed statement in the first place speaks volumes of the gratitude these men have for their fans. There’s absolutely no way they would deliver anything lackluster in their final seasons. Despite knowing the show is ending as Ackles stated nothing ever really ends in Supernatural upon the initial announcement of season fifteen.  This is true because the show will forever remain in our hearts as will these characters.  Regardless, I cannot promise I won’t cry anymore when it’s all said and done.
