Superman & Lois: Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor Promoted to Series Regular

The CW has officially renewed Superman & Lois for Season 4, bringing some significant changes to the popular series. One major update is the promotion of Michael Cudlitz, who portrays Lex Luthor, to a series regular for the upcoming season. While no specific details about the Season 4 story line were disclosed, hints from the synopses of Season 3 episodes suggest intense clashes between Lex, Superman, and Lois.

In Season 3, Lex’s grudge against the Kents intensifies due to his wrongful imprisonment for crimes actually committed by Bruno Mannheim and his deceased wife, Peia. The Season 3 finale sets the stage for major conflict in Season 4, as Lex plans his move during a meteor shower, as revealed in the synopsis for the episode “What Kills You Only Makes You Stronger.”

Aside from Cudlitz’s promotion, the rest of the cast experiences significant shakeups. Dylan Walsh (Sam Lane), Emmanuelle Chiriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing), Inde Navarette (Sarah Cushing), Wole Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons), and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo) have all been reportedly demoted to recurring or guest starring roles for Season 4, depending on their availability.

The decision to make cast changes comes after reports of budget reductions to lower the production costs of the series. Season 4 will consist of only 10 episodes, likely as a cost-saving measure.

As fans await the conclusion of Season 3, it has been revealed that the season finale will leave viewers on a cliffhanger. CW president Brad Schwartz teased the exciting ending, mentioning the presence of Lex Luthor and a gripping cliffhanger, without giving away any spoilers.
