Supergirl Recap ‘What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?’
Manchester Black has escaped prison and he brought some friends along with him. With the help of four others, Manchester is out for revenge against those who seek to hurt aliens. His method for doing things is radical, and Supergirl tries to talk him down. He scoffs at her request, saying that her way isn’t working. Manchester then tells her about a secret government operation to launch a satellite into space that will shoot down any incoming spacecrafts. Supergirl goes all the way to the top, asking the President to stop the operation. She tells him that if the project continues, a lot of innocent people are going to die, aliens and humans alike. The President refuses, ordering the launch date moved up so that Supergirl and Manchester’s Elite can’t interfere. Unfortunately, Manchester has a Morai on his team and learns the truth.
At the DEO, Lena has moved in so she can continue her research in peace. Alex drops by to say hello and figures out what Lena is working on. She seems relatively supportive of the idea to turn regular humans super. At CatCo, James knows that Lena has taken the government funding and is grappling with the idea of running the story on her research. One of his reporters, who was digging into L Corps activities, has found another lead regarding the secret testing. This time, James doesn’t deter her. He’s not sure if he should follow the story, and later gets advice from Kara. She tells him that he has to do what he thinks is right, and for no other reason than that. Will James follow the story just to get back at Lena?
Brainy and Nia are at odds as her training begins at the Fortress of Solitude. Nia is upset with Brainy because he won’t tell her the full scope of her powers. He knew one of her descendents in the future, but refuses to talk about them in fear of creating a time paradox (or so he says). Nia goes behind his back and talks to Kal-X, the Fortress’ all-knowing robot and finds out some of her powers. Brainy is mad at her, but admits that he can’t keep all things secret from her or she won’t ever learn. They are forced to put the few days of training to use when the Elite attack the government base.
Supergirl appears at Alex’s apartment and asks for her help with Manchester, telling her his plan. Alex says that she can’t do that, as it would put her job on the line. Supergirl accepts that. She, J’onn, Nia, and Brainy go to the base and fight the Elite. The Morai launches the satellite, but has changes the coordinates. Unless Supergirl can stop it, D.C. will be destroyed. Alex shows up to help and gives Kara the special supersuit, allowing her to fly into space. Kara moves the satellite at the last minute, and D.C. is saved. Afterward, the President condemns Kara’s actions, essentially saying that she was setting all this up to make him look bad. Because of this, the President decides to name Ben Lockwood the new Secretary of Alien Affairs.
Things are looking real bad, but on the bright side, Supergirl and Alex were able to fight alongside each other once more. Alex is starting to come around to the alien and recognizes that they make a good team. She also realizes that things are very wrong when Colonel Haley didn’t even know about the satellite. Alex goes to Lena, offering whatever help she needs, off the record, of course. Kara has a lot to deal with as Manchester and the Elite escaped, the President can’t be reasoned with, and Ben Lockwood is now in a place of power. I have no idea how she’s going to manage this one.
