‘Supergirl’ Recap ‘Suspicious Minds’

Supergirl Recap ‘Suspicious Minds’

Supergirl is out of the DEO, but that’s not going to stop her from helping those in need. Kara is alerted to an issue aboard a ship and flies off to the rescue. With the exception of one crewman, everyone aboard the ship has been killed. The DEO arrives on the scene and Colonel Haley is less than thrilled to see Supergirl there. The cause of the attack are aliens called Morae, who are invisible to the naked eye. Brainy and Alex investigate the origins of these new aliens and discover a cover-up by higher-ups, including Haley. A few young Morae were taken by the government and raised to be killing machines. The process worked too well, and now the Morae are targeting their captives, including Haley.

During all of this, Haley is intent on discovering the identity of Supergirl, undergoing rigorous interrogation with members of the DEO. Alex calls together the few who have been around long enough to know the truth, begging them to keep it a secret. Unfortunately, one of the agents cracks and reveals the truth. Haley confronts Alex about it, but the compound comes under attack by the Morae. Supergirl arrives to save the day and Haley’s life, but that doesn’t stop the colonel from revealing to Kara that she knows the truth. She then starts spouting her agenda, which essentially means blackmailing Kara into doing what Haley wants her to do. Alex snaps and knocks the colonel unconscious. The sisters then call J’onn to erase Haley’s mind. It works, but J’onn can’t remove Haley’s desire to find the truth. This leads to quite an interesting turn as Alex makes the decision to have her and the other agents’ memories wiped. Haley won’t stop, so they won’t allow themselves to reveal the info. This leads to an incredibly sad moments between Kara and Alex. The reason Kara became Supergirl was to save Alex and she doesn’t want her to forget that. J’onn performs the memory wipe.

Also this week, Brainy has laid the groundwork for Nia to become a superhero. He invites her to dinner to discuss the possibility of her becoming a “super friend,” saying that Supergirl is going to need help now that she’s been kicked out of the DEO. Nia isn’t too thrilled about the subject at first, mostly because she thought Brainy was asking her on a date, but as she starts looking through the binder he left behind with superhero concepts, I think she’s warming up to the idea. James and Lena are still a bit rocky, but after some advice from Kara, Lena decides to let James into the truth of her experiments. He seems supportive, but I think he definitely has some reservations on the subject. Is he going to end up being her next test subject? Or does he think Lena is definitely walking down the wrong path and acting too much like a “Luthor”? It’s unclear what his true feelings are.

This was an interesting start to the back half of the season and I really can’t wait to see what they’re going to do with Kara and Alex. I was not expecting that twist, and I think it’s going to create a very interesting dynamic for them.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Blood Memory.’
