‘Supergirl’ Recap ‘Parasite Lost’

Supergirl Recap ‘Parasite Lost’

Kara is back in action following the Kryptonite poisoning courtesy of Agent Liberty and the Graves siblings. Though Mercy and Otis were detained last week, their followers can go on without them. In fact, Liberty isn’t even phased by their capture. He lets the parasite that they stole from the DEO infect Jensen, who now has to feed off of others in order to survive. When he absorbs the life force of aliens, he also temporarily gains their powers. After his first encounter with Supergirl, who has her powers taken from her, the DEO realizes what they’re up against and Colonel Haley forbids Supergirl from going into the field.

Meanwhile, Kara runs a story about an alien named Amadei who can instantly heal other aliens. He says that he hopes to find a way to extend his abilities to helping humans heal. Despite having a lot of positive feedback, there are those who post nasty comments about the article online. Then, Amadei’s gem is taken from him. If he doesn’t get it back, he will die. Kara and J’onn join forces to track down who is responsible and find out that Amadei isn’t the saint they thought him to be. He has a daughter, but has never taken the time to meet her. The girl’s mother stole the gem from Amadei and gave it to the Children of Liberty. With this, Jensen can absorb alien abilities and retain them, which he does. Alex and the DEO move to intercept Jensen and defeat him the same way they defeat the parasite last time, by overloading his absorption rate with Plutonium. Jensen is super powerful, however, and the Plutonium gun doesn’t work. Instead, Alex talks to Jensen, telling him that she gets why he was so scared. She tells him that he is only spreading more fear and that she knows he is still a good guy, a fighter for justice. Jensen removes the gem, releasing his powers. They then burn up his powers and remove the parasite, but it has terrible consequences for Jensen.

While all of this is going on, James and Lena attend a gala where they meet up with Ben Lockwood. They talk about the platform that Ben has created in speaking out against aliens, and praises Guardian for his hero work. He thinks that they need more people like James who fight for what’s right, not aliens. James is missing being in the suit, and this conversation convinces him to get back out there when Jensen is attacking the city. He helps save a lot of people, but at what cost? He was warned to never wear the suit again, yet he did it anyway. Also, he seems to be taking a lot of Ben’s words to heart. I’m thinking James is going to end up joining forces with Ben in some capacity without knowing he is Agent Liberty and the root of all their problems.

Because of all his detective work in helping Amadei, other aliens are approaching J’onn for help. They tell him that he’s the guy to go to when they can’t go to the police. We also learn at the end of the episode that that Colonel Haley isn’t so pro-alien. She and Alex seem to have a good relationship, and the Colonel praises Alex for how she handled the Jensen situation, but that’s when she steps over the line and condemns the work J’onn did at the DEO. Alex defends J’onn, saying that she wouldn’t be here if not for him. He put everything into the organization and a lot of good came out of it. Haley isn’t really listening to her and says that she has a lot of hope for Alex moving forward. So there goes that good relationship.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Call to Action.’
