‘Supergirl’ Recap ‘Dark Side of the Moon’

Supergirl Recap ‘Dark Side of the Moon’

Kara and Mon-El are on their way to find a statue that can eradicate Reign and save Sam. They soon find that they have arrived on Krypton, and that’s when Kara’s mother appears. The planet is called Argo and was a back-up plan created by Kara’s parents. Alura tells Kara that they never would have sent her away if they knew that Argo was going to work. Unfortunately, Kara’s father paid for the planet’s creation with his life. Argo is fragile, but they live. Kara tells her mother the reason for their arrival and Alura responds that the statue is actually helping them sustain life. There may be a way to help, however. All Kara would have to do is convince the council to give her aid.

Back on Earth, Alex and Ruby come under attack. Alex knows that the person is targeting her and she enlists J’onn’s help in figuring out who it might be. Their original thought is Collins, who Alex “arrested” back in Midvale. When she confronts him, he denies any attempt on her life. He doesn’t like her, but his time away made him realize how much of a monster he had become. After another bomb goes off meant to kill her, Alex and J’onn decide to set a trap. J’onn poses as Alex, but the attacker figures out that it’s not the real one. Alex chases after the man, with no regard for her own life, and eventually catches him. He is the brother of an inmate from Fort Rozz. Afterward, Alex and J’onn have a heart-to-heart. Alex wants nothing more than to be a mother, but how could so be one when her life is constantly in danger. She says it wouldn’t be fair to the child or anyone else she might let into her life. J’onn tells her that she is an exceptional agent and will make a fine mother. He knows she will make the right decision when the time comes. Is the show setting things up for Alex to bow out of the DEO? I really hope not…

Back on Argo, Kara makes her case to the council, which features a familiar face. The Dark Kryptonian, who has been guiding Reign, is a member of the council, appearing in white and not looking evil at all. She is the deciding vote for if Argo will help Earth and agrees to offer aid. She delivers a pouch to Kara before she and Mon-El depart that contains the substance needed to stop Reign. The whole thing is really suspicious though. As soon as the two head back to Earth, the Dark Kyrptonian dons her robe once more and prays for the success of the Worldkiller. It all seems like a trap.

While all of this has been happening, Reign has been growing immune to Lena’s prison. The shield no longer blocks Reign from hearing what’s going on. She starts goading Lena, telling her that they aren’t so different. The only way Reign is going to be stopped is to kill her, and she doesn’t think Lena has the courage to do it. There’s a mixture of sadness and fury in Lena throughout all these scenes and I wonder if she’ll break under the pressure and forget her promise to Sam. A true way to break any ties with Supergirl and lead Lena into the darkness would be to have her kill, or attempt to kill, Reign. At the end of the episode, the barrier breaks down and the Kryptonite no longer affects Reign. She breaks out of the prison, but Kara and Mon-El arrive. The episode ends as the two sides engage in a fight.

I’m interested to see how Argo is going to fit into the series. Kara has been struggling with being human and alien, but this episode heavily dealt with Kara feeling like she didn’t have to hide on Argo. Mon-El was even accepted by the Kryptonians. The end of the season might find the two of them leaving Earth to live together there. I think Kara will seriously consider leaving, but, in the end, I don’t think she would leave. She knows how important Supergirl is and the impact she has upon the world. I can’t see her turning her back on Earth. That is, unless something catastrophic happens. We are three episodes away from the season finale and I am definitely excited to see how things are going to play out with Argo, the Dark Kryptonian, and Reign.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Not Kansas.’
