It’s time for Harvey and the gang to hang up their suits. After eight years at USA Network, the popular legal drama Suits has been renewed for a ninth and final season containing ten episodes. The series is currently airing its eighth season with newcomers Katherine Heigl and Dule Hill, who both joined the cast as series regulars last year. Recurring guest star Amanda Schull also returned in a full-time capacity for season eight after the exit of original cast members Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle.
Suits creator Aaron Korsh released a poignant statement confirming the news in which he reflected on USA’s trust in him as an unestablished writer and thanked his cast and crew. You can read the full statement below.
[row]Though I know it isn’t true, it seems like only yesterday USA Network took a chance on an unestablished writer’s very first hour-long script. These days that’s a common thing, but forty-seven years ago when I first wrote the Untitled Korsh Project, nobody did it. Nobody except the people at USA and UCP. First and foremost I would like to thank Alex Sepiol and Dennis Kim, without whom Suits would never have gotten made. I also cannot thank Bill McGoldrick, Jeff Wachtel, Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Ted Chervin, Dave Bartis, Gene Klein, Doug Liman, Dawn Olmstead and everyone at the network and studio enough for their dedication and support throughout the years. And to the exceptional writers, cast and crew – thank you for your passion and devotion, without which, Suits would be nothing. And last but never least, to the fans who have stuck with the Suits family through thick and thin, through can-openers and flashbacks – thank you for always speaking your mind. Without you, I might start to think I’m getting the hang of this writing thing. And once that happens, nobody wins. I look forward to enraging and hopefully sometimes delighting you with the final episodes. Finally, to my wife Kate and my children Cooper and Lucy. Thank you for enduring countless late nights and times away, for me to get to live my dream. I love you. Love, Aaron [/row]
Season eight has currently found Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and the gang trying to find their new normal now that Mike and Rachel are gone and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) has been made partner. Also on the horizon is a new love interest for Donna (Sarah Rafferty), which is sure to cause some temporary friction between her and Harvey, giving Korsh one final season to FINALLY get those two together.
While it’s sad to see Suits making its way off the air, fear not! Gina Torres’ spinoff Pearson is coming soon, which will follow Jessica Pearson as she opens her new practice in Chicago. The series was recently picked up for a first season by USA Network.
Suits will be returning for its back-half of season 8 on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 10/9c.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
