Suicide Squad is still four months away, but apparently, it’s already done. Suicide Squad is 100% finished, according to the director James Gunn. He’s been promoting the film’s upcoming cover story for Den Of Geek and revealed the information while promoting it. He posted it to his Twitter, saying, “By the way – we completely finished the movie this week, VFX and all. Can’t wait for you all to see it.” and after that he answered some questions about the film from fans. Because that’s what heroes do. Apparently films almost never wrap up this early, but Gunn says it was always his plan.
“It is unusual, but I always planned to have it done by now. What’s more unusual is that we didn’t do a single shot of pickups or any post-production shooting. Outside of Chris Nolan, that almost never happens, if at all, on tentpole superhero films….There’s nothing left to do other than me looking at marketing & toys, doing publicity & waiting for the world to heal just a little more so a larger number of people can see it safely in theaters, where it is intended to be seen.”

Now, considering the Snyder Cut of Justice League and all that other crazy stuff, one fan had an interesting question. The fan in question asked if the final cut of the film was Gunn’s, to which the director replied, “Yes, the movie is mine from start to finish.”
Suicide Squad is one of the few lucky projects that wasn’t super affected by the ongoing pandemic. Suicide Squad actually finished filming right before sets around the world were forced to shut down. Since the filming was all done all the remaining work on the film could be completed on a computer. Apparently, the hardest post-production thing to deal with was John Cena’s Peacemaker’s helmet.
“Peacemaker’s helmet is a damn mirror ball and we need to remove me and the crew from every single shot in which we use it, in the movie and in the show. We shoot a full wraparound plate of every set (most of which are fortunately practical) to put in the helmet when needed.” he tweeted on Monday.
