‘Suicide Squad 2’: New Director Announced
Warner Bros. has spent months hunting for just the right person to direct the upcoming sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. From Mel Gibson to The Shallows‘ Jaume Collet-Serra, nothing was ever officially announced or decided upon…until now.
The studio has brought on director Gavin O’Connor, who directed The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, to write and direct Suicide Squad 2. O’Connor’s other film credits include Jane’s Got a Gun starring Natalie Portman.
The first film was directed by David Ayer. He is currently in development with Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, for Gotham City Sirens which will be based on the female villains of Gotham.
The cast from the original film is expected to return for the sequel but there has been no word yet as to when shooting will begin. Many of the cast are involved with other projects including Robbie who is currently shooting Mary Queen of Scots and Will Smith who is filming Aladdin. Smith is also expected to begin filming Ang Lee’s Gemini Man after Aladdin wraps.
