‘Stranger Things’ Lead Actor David Harbour Announces When Production for Season 5 Will Commence

This past weekend, David Harbour (Detective Jim Hopper on Netflix’s Stranger Things) unveiled the exciting news that filming for its fifth and last season will commence this June — bringing fans one step closer to returning to the Upside Down! Harbour revealed this update at Middle East Film & Comic Con in Abu Dhabi.

Harbour has been open about his emotional stance on the series’ finish, admitting that although it’s a bit sad to say goodbye, he believes “it’s time for it to end.” With production beginning soon and Season 4 of Stranger Things nearly upon us, here are some of Harbour’s thoughts concerning what viewers should anticipate from Hopper this season:

“We’re walking into season five. I’ve got a couple more months to train. We start shooting that in June, though, and that will be the final season. I did a lot of training for season four. He [Hopper] was in a very specific position, that Russian prison. It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But now he’s back in town, he’s back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed.”

Harbour disclosed a select few details about the plot, although it was reassuring to learn of Hopper’s return from Russia. As he pointed out, his character spent most of Season 4 detained there – making their reunion with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in the last episode an emotional moment that will definitely continue into the show’s finale.

Although this news is exciting, it might be a bittersweet experience for enthusiasts of the long-running show. Audiences have been with these beloved characters for four seasons and more than five years. As of now, there’s still no release date set in stone; however, something close to 2024 would probably make sense. Until then, we can enjoy every remaining minute with our favorite people from Hawkins!

In July 2016, Netflix debuted the highly-anticipated original series Stranger Things. The Duffer Brothers created a captivating narrative that follows the residents of Hawkins, Indiana as they attempt to protect their town from an alternate dimension known as ‘The Upside Down’ – unleashed by a nearby human experimentation facility. With its gripping plot and memorable characters, it’s no surprise that Stranger Things has become one of Netflix’s most beloved shows among viewers around the world!

Apart from the main cast of Harbour, Ryder & Brown, Stranger Things is also comprised of Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin and Natalia Dyer through to Charlie Heaton. Joe Keery and Cara Buono are joined by Maya Hawke alongside Sadie Sink with Priah Ferguson & Brett Gelman rounding off this spectacular ensemble. Shawn Levy (Free Guy & Real Steel) brings it all together as executive producer along side Dan Cohen – what a team!

At Collider, we have all the latest news on Stranger Things season 5 and an exclusive interview with Harbour for both Season 5 and The Thunderbolts.
