The MTV Movie & TV Awards were a big night for many stars in film and television across the board. From comedy to drama and suspense and even emotional and tear-jerking, many pieces of entertainment that impacted us over the last year were nominated in a series of categories highlighting the stories and the actors and actresses who helped to tell them.
For Vin Diesel, it was an especially big night as he took home the Generation Award alongside his family from the Fast & Furious franchise. He shared a touching moment for his lost brother Paul Walker as he stood beside a few members of the cast who have been there through it all. It’s still strange to see them without Paul, but their constant love and adoration for him still shines through, no matter what they do.
So while Vin Diesel was enjoying his evening, someone who partnered with him on a project recently was singing his praises, and we couldn’t be more excited for the collaboration.
Steve Aoki spoke to Billboard before playing a set at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards after party. During their chat, he shared some information about a number of projects that he’s got coming up and one of those projects is a number with Vin Diesel himself.
The song that the pair are working on isn’t finished yet, but Steve already says that he was able to capture an essence from Vin and that he is a man that really loves music. The next thing that Steve said showcases a side of Vin that we’ve not seen before, but also a side of Steve that is too often overlooked.
He says that no one has been able to help get Vin to a place where he could share a lot of his vulnerability, but that you would definitely be hearing that in their song. Not only will we be seeing a more open side of an actor who is known for being strong, we’ll see the process of Steve helping him get there.
Steve’s music isn’t what most people would usually call emotional, but he proves time and time again that he’s got so much up his sleeves that he’s willing to show at any turn. At the end of 2016, Steve partnered with Louis Tomlinson on an emotional track. Many fans called it the ‘dance track that made you cry’. It was a song that the pair performed as a tribute to Louis’ mom who passed away in December of 2016.
“I was able to help capture an essence from Vin. He loves music. He’s a musical guy, but I think no one’s been able to help produce him to a place where he could really share a lot of his vulnerabilities, and you’re going to hear that in his song. And you’re going to really feel it. I don’t want to give away too much besides that, but it’s a special song. For Vin, he’s so excited, so he wanted to share it, but it’s in a very early stage. But even at this early stage, there is so much magic in the song already that it’s going to really blow people’s minds. They’re going to see a side of Vin, and they’re going to hear a side of Vin, that no one’s ever experienced.”
After hearing Steve talk about his new project with Vin with the excitement and emotion that he shared, we absolutely can’t wait to hear the tune!
