‘Star Wars’: Nick Nolte Joins ‘The Mandalorian’
Programming for Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ is starting to come together! Just a few weeks ago, it was announced that Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal had been tapped to star in Jon Favreau and Lucasfilm’s live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that veteran actor Nick Nolte has joined the production. For now, any details relating to Nolte’s role are being kept under wraps, but his repertoire is so diverse, Nolte could play any role. Nominated for three Academy Awards, Nolte is best known for his roles in The Prince of Tides, 48 hours, and Cape Fear. At this time, Disney declined to comment or provide details on the casting.
Production has already begun on the series which, according to StarWars.com, will be set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series will follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The series will be written and executive produced by Favreau, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
In addition to Favreau, Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson will also executive produce with Karen Gilchrist serving as co-executive producer.
In addition to announcing the platform’s name, last week Disney+ also revealed its plans for a Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna, so it looks like there are lots of exciting Star Wars plans in development at Disney+.
