Hayden Christensen Struggles with Introducing Daughter to Darth Vader
Years after bidding farewell to Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Hayden Christensen embraced the opportunity to portray Darth Vader once again in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. While fans eagerly anticipated seeing Christensen as the fully realized iconic villain, the actor is still hesitant to reveal this side of his character to his young daughter.
During a conversation with Diego Luna for Variety’s Actors on Actors, Christensen admitted that he isn’t quite ready for his eight-year-old daughter to witness him in the frightening Darth Vader costume.
“Letting her see me in the [Darth Vader outfit]? Well, that hasn’t happened yet,” he confessed. “She’s eight now, and I don’t know if I can delay it much longer. I’ve been dragging my feet a little bit. She knows that I’m in Star Wars and that I played this character, but she hasn’t seen it yet. I’m working on it and trying to figure out the right time to introduce her to it.”
Fortunately, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series also provided Christensen the opportunity to film scenes as Anakin, without donning the imposing Darth Vader costume. He was able to bring his daughter to the set and let her witness some of those moments being filmed.
“There are some intense scenes that I’m hesitant to expose her to at her age,” Christensen shared. “However, it was a wonderful experience being a part of the Obi-Wan show and having her on set. Not during the Darth Vader scenes, but we did a flashback sequence where I portrayed Anakin. She got to see me wield a lightsaber alongside Ewan [McGregor]. She was genuinely concerned for our safety and worried that one of us might get hurt.”
For now, it remains uncertain whether the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will mark the final appearance of Hayden Christensen suiting up as a Star Wars character.
