Sonequa Martin-Green may not be shooting zombies anymore but she’s about to be shooting some hoops. According to Variety, The Walking Dead actress is dribbling her way to Space Jam 2, which stars Lebron James in his first feature role since Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck. The film will act as a follow-up to the nostalgia-inducing and brilliant 1996 film, which starred Michael Jordan as the athlete recruited by the Looney Toons to take on the adorable yet evil Monstars. Martin-Green is rumored to be playing James’ wife in the film.
James’ production company SpringHill Entertainment confirmed the long-rumored news on social media last year, sharing the impressive creative team behind the project. Fan-favorites Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Fast Five director Justin Lin will be producing the film with HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness creator Terence Nance directing.
[row]“I loved his vision [ for Black Panther] so for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing,” James told The Hollywood Reporter about Coogler’s vision.”The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie. It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people,” he continued.[/row]
Sonequa Martin-Green had a breakout role when she appeared as Sasha on The Walking Dead. After five years on the show, she moved on to star in CBS All-Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, which is currently on its second season. Other credits include Once Upon a Time, The Good Wife, and the upcoming film The Outside Story.
Are you excited to Space Jam 2 with Sonequa Martin-Green? The film is expected to hit theaters on July 16, 2021!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
