Showtime Renews ‘Shameless’ for Season 10
They may be down a couple of Gallaghers, but Shameless is officially coming back for a tenth season on Showtime. The network announced the news during their Television Critics’ Association panel this morning. With Emmy Rossum and Cameron Monaghan both signing off in season nine, stars William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Ethan Cutkosky, Emma Kenney, and Christian Isaiah are all coming back, according to Deadline.
[row]“The Gallaghers are a force of nature, and they are coming back. Shameless, with its ever-growing fan base, is like no other show on television. We are thrilled it will live on with its unique blend of love and larceny on Showtime,” Gary Levine, President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks said.[/row]
Showrunner John Wells also chimed in saying, “All of us on Shameless are delighted that we get to tell more wonderful Gallagher stories – and thankful to Showtime for their continued support. We can’t wait to get back to work with this extraordinary cast.” Despite the exit of Rossum, Macy, who has been consistently nominated for Emmy Awards, has been pretty vocal about there being a lot more story to tell about the ever-dysfunctional Gallagher family.
[row]”The other genius thing about it is that there are kids and they’ve been growing up and as they grow up it opens up a brand new world of plot possibilities. My character is a little bit more problematical, because I’m playing a character that by definition doesn’t change. But they’ve done a magnificent job of figuring out where to go with this thing — and it’s exciting,” he told EW last year.[/row]
Season nine of Shameless is currently airing its back half of the season now on Showtime. It’s the final stretch for Emmy Rossum who has been playing the eldest Gallagher, Fiona, since the show’s 2011 premiere. Debbie is stepping up into a more maternal role, taking on the finances of the house – albeit a little on the intense side. Carl and Lip are both navigating some new and confusing relationships, and Frank is kind of about to become a father to sextuplets.
There’s a lot happening and we can’t wait to see what more is in store for the Gallaghers! Production on season 10 will begin sometime in 2019. Catch new episodes Sunday at 9/8c on Showtime!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
