YouTube personality Shane Dawson announced yesterday that his next docuseries will be about controversial fellow YouTuber, Jake Paul.

Dawson released a teaser trailer for his next series, due to be released September 25th, via his twitter account on September 11th. The move immediately started facing negative responses from followers.

Never one to back down from a touchy subject, Shane responded to the negative responses with one tweet that read “Trust me.”

Dawson is a part of YouTube royalty having joined the platform in 2008 at the age of 19, is known for his brand of videos that include comedy, real-life, sketches, and ghost hunting and documentary style web series. Other series listed on his channel in this docuseries style include collaborations with; Tana Mongeau, Bunny Meyer and most recently Jeffree Star.

Shane’s most recent docuseries with controversial beauty guru Jeffree Star garnered Shane praise from not only his fans but as well as other media outlets such as Cosmopolitan. It seemed that the series Shane had done with Jeffree opened up Shane’s channel, and creativity, to a new genre and new audience on YouTube. Pausing here for a moment, I will have to admit that once I watched Shane’s series on Jeffree Star, I became absolutely hooked on Shane and his videos. Shane’s YouTube channel can be very addictive.

After giving the world a 3 part series on the behind the scenes life of Jeffree Star, fans were left wanting more of this content. This content is executed perfectly. This content is also not appropriate for children. It is funny, relatable, sad, and probably a little rehearsed.

Shane seemed to feel the same way about the content he released on Jeffree and the response from viewers.

On July 12th Shane tweeted “I know it’s controversial but I really wanna try more things like this on my channel. I wanna try things I’m genuinely fascinated by and interested in. The ups and downs of Jake Paul’s life and persona is something I would LOVE to see from the inside.” With that tweet, even though nothing was confirmed at the time, the subscribers and followers of Shane knew, Jake Paul would be the next series.

If controversy was a competition, the Paul brothers Jake and Logan would be crowned winners. Known for childish and sometimes dangerous antics, wild stunts and a rapid firing mouth, Jake Paul has become a YouTuber that everyone loves to hate. Never really giving a bunch of personal information away, not knowing if he is every serious and wondering why some of the things he does, he has made the choice to do is why there is a bigger more grown audience that cannot connect with Jake Paul. Maybe this is how he really is, maybe there is more to him and his collaboration with Shane Dawson will be a platform to open up on, at this point it has everyone left with a shroud of mixed emotions on the series announcement. Looks like we will have to wait until September 25th when The Mind of Jake Paul series is released to find out.
