When reviews started pouring in from the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the most talked about movies was easily I, Tonya. Starring Margot Robbie and Sebastian Stan, the film chronicles the career of Tonya Harding, specifically her part in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan.
In stills from the film, Margot’s transformation looks effortless and those who saw the film said her performance was noteworthy. In interviews with the cast and crew, you could see the effort and dedication put into the film, and how tirelessly they worked to create the perfect comedy-biopic.
It’s not easy to tell a story like that of Tonya Harding, but the film is going to do it with some humor, which will definitely help. That stands especially true after the first teaser trailer has just been released.
The teaser shows one of Tonya’s most successful moments in skating, that triple axel landing at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1991, and some of those more tense moments that show the darker side of ‘fame’. Including an emotional clip of her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, played by Sebastian stan.
The narration only serves to force that point home.
‘America: it wants someone to love. But they want someone to hate, and the haters always say: ‘Tonya, tell the truth! There’s no such thing as the truth, I mean, it’s bullsh–!‘
While it’s just a teaser for now, it was once again the talk of social media, and we think the film is going to be an absolute smash.
You can see I, Tonya in theaters on December 8th.
