SDCC: ‘Captain Marvel’ to be set in the ‘90s & will see Brie Larson up against the Skrulls

Marvel have been taking over SDCC this weekend after releasing the second teaser for Thor: Ragnarok and debuting the first trailer of Avengers: Infinity War. And if this wasn’t enough, during the studio’s Comic-Con panel in Hall-H fans were given a deeper insight into the upcoming Captain Marvel film, starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers.

What we now know is that the movie will take place in the 1990s, ultimately acting as a prequel to Marvels Cinematic Universe. Whilst it has been known that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) will make an appearance in film, it further helps us to understand the context in which we will see him physically. Fans will see a different side to Fury as reports reveal that he will not be sporting his infamous eyepatch. With Captain Marvel believed to be set mostly in outer-space, perhaps a young Star-Lord could make a brief appearance?

Also revealed is that the Skrulls will be taking the role of the film’s villains, coming as a surprise to hard-core superhero comic fans. The not-so-appealing shape changing green aliens are primarily known as the villains in the Fantastic Four comics, where their film rights will be handled by Fox studios. This fuels speculation that Marvel have made some sort of deal for the creatures to appear in the 2019 picture – how that happened, we probably might never know but welcome to the Marvel Universe Skrulls.
