SDCC 2019: ‘Batwoman’ & ‘Pennyworth’ Screening Reactions
SDCC 2019 is in full swing! Yesterday the convention started with two Warner Bros. screenings. One was from Batwoman, and the other of the prequel, Pennyworth. They added another screening on Saturday with a Q&A in Ballroom 20, at 10:30. Mark your schedule if you do not want to miss out!
The first reactions on Twitter for Batwoman have been pretty great. People were a little afraid that another The CW show would start with a not so strong first season. People on Twitter, however, were pretty impressed.

Hearing the Batwoman Pilot screening at Comic Con last night got positive responses. Hearing “action is great, almost as good as Arrow” & “story is very interesting”. #Batwoman pic.twitter.com/fb0GPk6XEO

Although it had some pretty good reviews, it also had a lot of critiques. Some people even said that the storyline was all over the place and that it had too many flashbacks. It sounds to me that they tried to work towards something along the lines of Arrow’s first season. They still have time to make some changes, but how I see it, we have to give it a fair chance. After all, we’ve seen shows that had a wonky first season and it picked up after that in the second season. I’m looking at Supergirl, or Legends of Tomorrow.
We recently got a new poster that gave us all the needed comic book vibes for the new vigilante. Batwoman follows the origin of the hero, where Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) finds out the secret from her cousin and decides to pick up the bat-winged cape. Batwoman follows the origin of the hero, where Kate Kane finds out the secret from her cousin and chooses to pick up the bat-winged mantle. Above it all, she’s an openly gay woman struggling to see what’s wrong and right.
The next one was the screening of Pennyworth. As a result of Gotham’s ending the showrunners thought it was interesting to make a spin-off for Alfred Pennyworth. The storyline follows everything Alfred Pennyworth did before he joined the Wayne family. Recently they released a trailer, but it didn’t really catch the eye of the people.
Now that the pilot was screened at San Diego Comic-Con, people were surprised that it was so much better than the trailer promised us.

Boosting this because I really do like @PennyworthEpix. I'm 99% convinced Jack Bannon is tipping a nod to Michael Caine in his accent and it's glorious.
Think Kingsman meets the 1960's Avengers with a little Man from U.N.C.L.E. thrown in. So get to the panel if you can #SDCC. https://t.co/1Ev0vkujie

My @THR review of #Pennyworth, the new drama that explores Alfred the badass (yes, Alfred, Batman’s future butler) and his origin story. It’s a ton of fun, more grown up and grounded than you’d imagine:https://t.co/AKB2TNk0aw

Completely unexpected, #Pennyworth is amazing. Like seriously great. It’s tense, gritty, savvy, comedic and lean in its execution. The cast is brilliant and the whole hall burst into laughter many times! #SDCC @PennyworthEpix @EPIXHD pic.twitter.com/GkMbadCCgI
