SDCC 2019: ‘Supernatural’ Cast’s Emotional Sendoff

At the final panel for the beloved CW show Supernatural, fans were not the only ones emotional. The stars and producers received a well deserved standing ovation at the panel. These characters have been in our lives for fourteen years. They have also been a huge part of the show’s stars lives for fourteen years. That is no small feat. The emotions were running high for the three actors who have portrayed Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester, and Castiel the past fourteen seasons.

Jaded Padalecki even asked at one point “Can we all just start crying so I don’t feel so weird?” I think it’s hard to not feel emotional when these characters have meant the world to thousands. These characters have provided the actors with so much over the years as well.  Padalecki also insisted to the moderators of the panel, “That’s so mean to start with us — I’m trying not to cry.” How could Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict start with anyone else though?  Of course we want to know what the actors are thinking about their upcoming final season.  This does not make the experience any less emotional for anyone involved though.

Much like Padalecki, Ackles too was emotional.  He admitted that it’s “really is hard to express the takeaway from the experience. 14 years and change is a long time…We hoofed it up to Vancouver thinking we would just put our lives on hold and we would do a season, maybe two…Life never got unpaused and I’m glad it didn’t.” In addition to seeing these characters grow up alongside one another, we have witnessed the actors grow up alongside each other as well. We’ve watched them become fathers and build their families together.  In many ways, fans have watched these actors become brothers much like they plan on the series.

Even though there are many characters who have not been around from the beginning, this does not make it less emotional for them.  Misha Collins first appearance on the show occurred in season four.  Ten years of work as fans favorite angel.  Collins told the audience that he “could never have dreamed that along with that would come this incredible fandom and this iconic legacy of a show.”  While working on the hit show for the past ten years, he admits that he considers “these guys lifelong friends.” The camaraderie among these three actors is not something viewers see everyday.

These three actors in particular, have helped create a following television shows can only dream of attaining.  A following that has supported their charities, their causes, and help post about various platforms near and dear to their hearts. With numerous conventions spanning along the United States, and overseas, the fans have no desire in letting their love for the show fade any time soon.  They remain loyal as most have been from the first episode on September 13, 2005.  Fans will cherish the fifteen seasons the show gave us.

Supernatural is going out on a high note. The show remains one of the highest rated shows for the CW Network. Supernatural is also the only remaining show from The WB Network still airing on the network currently. On Thursday, October 10, Supernatural will return for it’s fifteenth and final season.
