A new chapter of Sons of Anarchy is upon us. Today, the cast and creators of the upcoming spinoff Mayans MC took the stage to talk about the new series, its predecessor and even shared the first 13 minutes of the pilot with the lucky fans in Hall H, and it sounds like it’s going to be perfectly on brand for expectations!
Like…I counted five censored F-bombs in the 13 minutes we saw. #MayansFX #SDCC

Fans were definitely into the exclusive footage they were shown, calling it “captivating” and recognizing that while the show feels familiar, it has a whole new vibe than Sons.
Same universe but this feels different from Sons. Main character is a prospect who, in the beginning, was destined for much bigger things. Set along the US/Mexico border. #MayansFX #SDCC

Mayans MC will follow EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), a former golden boy with the American Dream just within his reach who is now fresh out of prison and prospecting for Mayans Motorcycle Club. FX released a full trailer earlier this week ahead of the SDCC panel. Check that out below or for a full breakdown head here.

During the panel, series star JD Pardo spoke about the reverence he had when deciding to take on a role in such a beloved TV universe.
JD Pardo said he felt a responsibility toward FX and toward Sons of Anarchy fans while auditioning for the role of “EZ.” #MayansMC #FXSDCC

He also called out Charlie Hunnam for dropping his bike on the first day of filming for Sons.
JD Pardo lets slip that Charlie Hunnam dropped his bike the first day of filming Sons of Anarchy, so any #MayansFX star that did the same is in “good company.” #MayansMC #FXSDCC

The series allowed the opportunity for co-creator Elgin James to put a more personal touch on the narrative.

Sarah Bolger spoke about working with Pardo and how there will be a lot to unpack about her character’s history with the MC.
Kissing JD Pardo is a “delight,” reveals Sarah Bolger. Kurt Sutter warns that she can’t say much more about her character, but that she has a direct connection to the Mayans M.C. #FXSDCC #MayansMC

Kurt Sutter revealed that while no crossovers are planned with the Sons of Anarchy cast at the moment, that there will be plenty of Easter Eggs for long-time fans to uncover.

But he did confirm that the Mayans MC still has a relationship with the Sons MC.
The show takes place three years after Jax Teller, and while Kurt Sutter is “protective” of the Sons of Anarchy “mythology”, that world will “intersect” at times with the #MayansMC world. “There is a “relationship” between the Mayans MC and Sons of Anarchy MC. #FXSDCC

In addition to Pardo, the series also stars Emilio Rivera, Clayton Cardena, Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, and Danny Pino.
Mayans MC will premiere on FX September 4th at 10/9c.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
