Samuel L. Jackson’s Candid Call: Encouraging Johnny Depp, Emma Stone, to Quit Hollywood and Find Another Job

Samuel L. Jackson Encourages Actors, Including Johnny Depp and Emma Stone, to Leave the Industry and Embrace a New Path”

Samuel L. Jackson is gearing up for his highly-anticipated return as Nick Fury in Marvel’s upcoming series, Secret Invasion. As he embraces this exciting chapter in his career, there’s even more reason for celebration.

One of the notable milestones for Jackson is his inclusion in an exclusive club of Marvel artists credited as executive producers for their own solo projects. This distinction adds to the excitement surrounding the series, as he eagerly anticipates the fruition of his efforts on screen.

Interestingly, Jackson sets himself apart from many of his industry colleagues who find it challenging to watch their own movies. Numerous actors, including Emma Stone and Johnny Depp, have confessed their aversion to seeing themselves on the screen. They cite self-criticism and the potential for spiraling into self-doubt as the reasons behind their reluctance.

While Depp avoids watching his films, viewing them as a reflection of the past rather than the present, Stone has admitted to leaving a screening of one of her iconic movies, unable to endure the experience of watching herself for an extended period. However, Samuel L. Jackson has a different perspective on this matter, finding such claims to be ridiculous.

In an interview, Jackson expressed his disagreement with the notion, questioning the reluctance of actors to watch their own work. His outlook reflects a contrasting viewpoint, where he appreciates and embraces the opportunity to see his performances on screen. For him, the process of creating art is more important than personal insecurities that may arise from self-evaluation.

As Samuel L. Jackson celebrates his involvement in Secret Invasion and his executive producer credit, he stands as a unique figure in the industry, encouraging actors like Johnny Depp and Emma Stone to explore new avenues beyond their comfort zones. His perspective challenges the common belief among actors and highlights his distinct approach to embracing his own work.

In the ever-evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, Samuel L. Jackson’s perspective serves as a reminder of the diverse attitudes actors hold toward their own movies, while also inspiring reflection on the ways artists navigate their careers and personal growth.

“People talk about, ‘I can’t stand to watch myself on screen.’ Well, get another job! You expect people to pay $12 or $15 to go and see you, and you don’t want to see it? I don’t think so.”

Admittedly, he has never had any problems watching himself on the big screen and he doesn’t think others should either. To him, it seems almost disrespectful to the audience and the craft both.

Samuel L. Jackson enjoys watching himself on screen

As mentioned, Samuel L. Jackson absolutely loves watching himself on screen ever since his New York theater days. The reason behind this seems simple to him. He explained,

“I want to leave the theater going, ‘That was awesome! That was great! Ahh!’ That’s why people go to the movies, and I want to be part of that.”

As a result, he even goes back to watch the movies of his younger days as he claimed when asked about whether he felt weird watching his digitally de-aged self in Captain America in an interview before. He noted,

“I watch my old movies all the time, so no. If I’m channel-surfing and there’s something old of mine on that I like, I watch it. So I see that face.”

And so this was a perfect opportunity for him according to Samuel L. Jackson himself. An actor who enjoys and has fun not only performing but also watching his performances will have such extreme excitement about his upcoming high-intensity Marvel series is a no-brainer. Thankfully, his fans, too, are waiting with bated breath for the adventure to begin next month.

Secret Invasion arrives on Disney+ on June 21st, 2023.
