I remember how excited I was when Deadpool was first announced as being in production several years ago; and when the film finally came out this past year, it was by far one of my all-time favorite films. A hilarious, snarky superhero with no filter? More please!
In the end, Deadpool was not one of the films that was selected during Oscars race when nominations were announced on Tuesday morning. The films iconic star, Ryan Reynolds, quickly assured fans that it would all be okay via social media.
When the worlds first R-rated superhero success earned Golden Globe nominations, Reynolds tweeted that the Deadpool team had celebrated with “a grotesque, early morning tickle-fight.”
Deadpool won over viewers with its dark comedy and unique ‘superhero’ style.
When the Golden Globes nominations were announced, Reynolds told EW in an interview that the Oscars probably should have a comedy category.
“I’ve always said that I wish the Oscars had a category for comedy as well,” Reynolds told EW at the time. “It’s not an easy job. Oftentimes with comedies you have to have some pathos and real grit that in turn earns you the right to subvert expectations and be funny. It takes a lot of construction.”
Deadpool may not be up for an Oscar, but we still love him nonetheless! <3
