Last night, Ryan Murphy’s new Drama 9-1-1 premiered on television and absolutely captivated audiences. From the first moments, the action-packed series demanded attention and until the very last seconds, you didn’t want to look away. Even when you did.

The series, as to be expected by its title, deals with emergency situations and follows everyone involved as daring rescues take place. In the premiere episode, we saw a baby rescued from a pipe after being flushed down a toilet and a woman strangled by her own snake.

Peter Krause, who portrays a firefighter, had this to say about the scene with the snake.

‘By the time I had to go on set and deal with it, the snake handler said, ‘If she starts to fight you, let her go.’ I said ‘No problem! Sweat was just pouring out of my head. It was just a giant frickin’ snake, man! I mean huge.’

That being said, Krause also spoke about the scenes and how much of what they do on set is real. It’s not all green screen and easy rolling. He says he’s spent after days of filming because it’s so real, but he’s enjoying every moment of being part of this series.

‘It’s hard, man. There are times where we’re not acting. People will watch this show and think there’s a lot of green screen but there’s not. We used a green screen once. It’s all frickin’ real. I’m physically exhausted, emotionally spent, my nerves are shot, but I’m having the time of my life.’

Ryan Murphy spoke on the scenes as well and said all the rescues that are portrayed on the series are 100% real. You can even look them up online.

‘All the cases in the show are like Nip/Tuck: 100 percent truth. Go online — [the baby rescue] happened in China. We referenced the video of it when we were shooting the baby’s head coming out like a birth. The snake story actually happened.’

They’re not stopping there either, this season they’ll tackle a roller coaster situation as well as a wedding party that crashes through three floors and even a plane crash. An ocean was built on set to make sure the situation was as realistic as possible.

9-1-1 stars Peter Krause, Connie Britton, Angela Bassett and more. You can catch the series Wednesday nights at 9 pm on Fox.
