Right now for The Walking Dead fans, it’s a bit of a confusing time. One one hand, the hit AMC show is better than it’s been in years. New showrunner Angela Kang has revived the series and restored it to what it used to be in its early season when fans first fell in love with the characters. On the other hand, fans know that when the show returns from its mid-season break, most likely many of those characters that we know and love will perish at the hands of a new, creepy enemy who viewers got a small glimpse of in the mid-season finale. Yes, the Whisperers are officially here. Fans of the source material comics have waited years for their arrival, and now that the group has shown its face behind its walker-skin mask, viewers fear that more big deaths may be coming this season.

One such character death has already occurred. In the mid-season finale, we needlessly lost Paul “Jesus” Rovia (played by Tom Payne) while he attempted to fight off a herd of walkers mixed with Whisperers. At this point in the series, we know more than the characters do. They are just discovering this group and their terrifying ways, but all will soon be revealed when the show returns in February.

In the meantime, it looks like The Walking Dead newcomer Ryan Hurst is going to have some serious fun with fans leading up to his first appearance as the Whisperers second-in-command, Beta. On Thursday, Hurst tweeted an ominous poem-like warning. He wrote, “We talk low. We walk slow. We kill…everyone. #Whisperers”

Fans are pumped to see the Sons of Anarchy star joining The Walking Dead series but may find themselves even more conflicted once his character finally shows up. Skybound’s The Walking Dead describes Beta as, “a brute who is fiercely loyal to Alpha and will kill anyone who threatens her or their way of life. Negan is the first character to meet him and nicknames him “Frowny Mctwoknives,” “Beta Mctwoknives,” and Jolly Green Giant for his enormous height and two knives.”

He’s going to be trouble, for sure, for our Walking Dead OGs, but we still can’t wait to see what happens with the Whisperers storyline when The Walking Dead returns from its mid-season break.

The Walking Dead will return for the second half of season nine on February 10th.
